Singapore: Insights into Paid Time Off (PTO)
Singapore is a culture that values rules, harmony and collectivism. And, as a collective, Singaporeans are known for working long hours. In fact, according to a 2014 survey by a local recruiting agency Morgan McKinley, 65% percent of the employee respondents said they feel obligated to work well past the typical 44-hour workweek.
PTO AND HOLIDAYS
Like most of us, PTO and Holidays are important to this hard-working people. Here’s the scoop.
Paid Time Off starts with seven days.
An employee is eligible for PTO after working for a company for three months. The amount of PTO depends on the number of years an employee has worked for the company.
- 1 year – 7 days
- 2 years – 8 days
- 3 years 3 – 9 days
- 4 years – 10 days
- 5 years – 11 days
- 6 years – 12 days
- 7 years – 13 days
- 8 years+ – 14 days
There are 11 public holidays.
- New Years Day (January 1st)
- Chinese New Year Day 1
- Chinese New Year Day 2
- Hari Raya Adilfitri
- Hari Raya Haji
- Good Friday
- Labor Day
- Versak Day
- National Day
- Deepavali
- Christmas Day
