United Kingdom: Employee Well-being Research 2017

March 27, 2017:

For the second year in a row, Asinta’s Partner in the United KingdomPunter Southall, partnered with the Reward & Employee Benefits Association (REBA) to conduct research into the evolution of UK workplace wellbeing.

The research was done in the form of an online survey in November 2016. Responses were received from 250 UK wellbeing, HR, and employee benefits specialists working at organizations of various sizes and in several different sectors.

Key findings include:

  • Over 50% of respondents currently have no wellbeing strategy in place for their employees, but virtually all plan to either introduce a strategy soon or they have an employee wellbeing strategy on their wish list.
  • 3% of respondents have a dedicated budget for their wellbeing strategy.
  • The top items currently included in UK wellbeing strategies include physical activity, mental health, nutrition/healthy eating, and work-life balance.
  • The top 3 current initiatives include employee assistance programs, discounted or free gym membership, and health screenings.
  • Responses showed that in the UK, significant growth is expected in wellbeing strategies for sleep and caregiver support, as well as financial education/guidance.

Punter Southall and REBA’s full report provides an in-depth assessment of the 2017 survey responses, including expert opinions on the current state of wellbeing strategies in the UK and what is expected to change in the years to come.
