India: Health Insurance Firms Design Products for Cashless Cover of OPD Expenses

Health insurance companies in India like Bajaj Allianz and Royal Sundaram are looking into designing plans that provide outpatient coverage through a cashless network. These plans would include Outpatient Department (OPD) expenses, pharmaceutical bills and consultation charges, reimbursing policy holders on a cashless basis. Another major player, ICICI Lombard, had already rolled out an OPD cashless facility for its corporate clients in 2014. Most insurance companies do see a consumer need for such a product, but are still navigating the challenges of administering it.
