Understanding Employee Benefits Terminology

Every week, Asinta brings you a short glossary of commonly, and sometimes uncommonly, used terms in the world of employee benefits.

Short term disability plans

Short-term disability plans provide benefits for non-work-related illnesses or accidents on a per-disability basis, typically for a 6-month to 12-month period. Benefits are paid as a percentage of employee earnings or as a flat dollar amount. Benefits vary with the amount of predisability earnings, length of service with the establishment, or length of disability.
