Asinta’s Business Etiquette Insight: El Salvador

Is your company looking to set up a new business in El Salvador?  Here are some useful business etiquette insights to help guide you in the right direction:

#1 Building relationships is very important in El Salvador and you should only start doing business with someone once this has been achieved. Make sure you schedule any appointment at least a month in advance of your trip with as much personal contact as possible.

#2 At the very first meeting, introduce the senior members first followed by others in order of their rank. You will need to be aware of the titles of all people attending the meeting and to use them appropriately as they are considered very important.

#3 Good manners are essential; this includes shaking hands (typically loose and lasts longer than in the USA), maintaining good eye contact, and never pointing your finger at someone during a conversation. Avoid any type of hard selling, conflict or confrontation and be prepared to have several meetings before a final decision is made.
