Asinta’s Business Etiquette Insight: Mexico

Is your company looking to set up a new business in Mexico?  With the help of our partner in Mexico, Intertec, we have complied some useful business etiquette insights to help guide you in the right direction:

#1 When setting up meetings in advance, it is very important in Mexico that you reconfirm the meeting several times beforehand, even up to the evening before.  Mexicans tend to treat meetings as tentative unless you are actually in the country and it is quite common for meetings to be cancelled or postponed with little warning.

#2 Mexicans place high value on someone’s appearance so always dress in a businesslike manner.  When addressing someone you meet for the first time, use their professional title followed by their surname, or just ‘Señor’, if no title.  Never use the ‘okay’ hand gesture common in the United States as this is considered vulgar.
