Update on Insurance and Employee Benefits Situation in Ukraine

Insurance and Employee Benefits Situation in UkraineThe following update about the insurance and benefits situation in Ukraine is provided by MAI CEE, Asinta’s employee benefits consulting Partner in the country.

INSURANCE – Insurance companies are operating as best they can despite the current situation in Ukraine. All covered services covered by the policy, and are paid by the insured, can be reimbursed. Insurers are servicing current health insurance contracts and can quote short-life/personal accident and travel policies. Health insurance renewals can occur, but the war may impact this. Military actions are not covered under insurance.

HEALTHCARE In the hardest-hit areas – Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernigiv, and Sumy – many private medical clinics are closed or are working only on emergent needs. Standard healthcare is well below normal levels in these areas because the priority is emergency care.

For outpatient care, insurers can provide online consultations and monitor the availability of drugs in the drugstores, so insureds know if prescriptions can be picked up.

WESTERN UKRAINE – The situation is calmer in this area, and the use of insurance services remains in operation to the extent the situation allows.
