Ireland’s Sick Pay Entitlement Begins January 2023

Ireland's Sick Pay EntitlementIreland’s sick pay entitlement goes into force on January 1, 2023. Prior to Ireland’s Sick Leave Act 2022, there was no legal right to be paid while a person was on sick leave from work. Once effective, the law gives workers the right to be paid for up to 3 sick days a year, which will increase to 5 days in 2024, 7 days in 2025, and 10 days in 2026. The employer payment rate is 70% of normal wages, with the maximum being €110 per day. To receive this benefit, an employee must have worked for their employer for at least 13 weeks and have their general practitioner certify the employee is unfit to work.
